50 mile - Cape Ann Loop
This was a hit last time and I ride it all the time so I'm going to make it available on a regular basis to anyone who would like to join. Details (such as lunch) may change depending on the group's feelings but the route will remain the same more or less. Join us for a beautiful ride through Cape Ann that will showcase the rugged coastlines of Magnolia and Gloucester and the pastoral horse farms of central Essex. Leaving from the Balch street entrances of the Cummings center in Beverly we'll wind our way through Beverly farms over to 127, north through Manchester-by-the-sea and Magnolia past Hammond Castle to Gloucester and the magnificent shoreline and homes of Eastern Point. Heading west after that we'll get into some of the most beautiful and quiet country roads the North Shore has to offer with a stop at JT Farnham's in Essex for an al fresco lunch overlooking the scenic Essex river and surrounding marsh. Then it's back in the saddle for more bucolic farm vistas and country lanes. A quick detour through Bradley Palmer State Park and a skirt of the Massachusetts Audubon Sanctuary brings us back to 97 and a 6 mile ride back home. About 50 miles in total. I'll be planning on doing this in about 5-6 hours (depending on the length and frequency of stops) finishing with an average riding pace of about 13mph. Usually I like to start earlier than this (say 8am) but I thought I might be the only one. If however there is interest in avoiding some of the heat of the day we can make adjustments depending on travel arrangements of members. Things to bring: A bike (road or hybrid) and helmet. A spare tube and patch kit. Water or sports drink and plenty of it. Money for lunch, water, etc... Sunblock. The Cummings Center is located on route 62 (Elliot street) in Beverly and is about a 5 min pedal north of the Beverly commuter rail station. The route map is below cue is available in the group files under the 'more' menu above. Feel free to contact me with questions or comments. Route Map -Dan

62 Mile Beverly - Newburyport Loop
This route will lead us through 4 different state parks or forests along wooded and secluded roads, through historic town centers and into West Newbury where a newly identified nesting pair of Bald Eagles has been seen. Our route takes us past several bodies of water with open sky line views and perhaps just maybe we may be able to steal a glimpse of the birds. Beginning in Beverly at the Cummings center on route 62 (Elliot St) near the Balch street entrances at the back of the campus we'll head north along roads generally parallel to route 1A through the towns of Wenham, Ipswich and Rowley. We'll pass through the Parker River marshes on our way into Newbury and Newburyport then turn west and southerly toward West Newbury and Byfield. Past several reservoirs and through shady lanes we'll keep an eye (and ear) out for those birds. We'll stop for lunch at a little variety store on Main street in Byfield (mile 39 or so) then head south again into the shade of the Georgetown-Rowley state forest. Passing through Topsfield center on our way back to Beverly along route 97. Here is a route map We'll be aiming for an average pace of 14-15 mph so I would expect to finish this in about 6-6.5 hours depending on the length and frequency of stops. Things to bring: A bike (road, hybrid whatever you can keep the pace on) and helmet. A spare tube and patch kit. Water or sports drink and plenty of it. Energy snacks/Cliff bars or similar. Money for lunch, water, etc... Sunblock. The Cummings Center is located on route 62 (Elliot street) in Beverly and is about a 5 min pedal north of the Beverly commuter rail station. Feel free to contact me with questions or comments. Look forward to seeing lots of you there. -Dan

Put another way, "Strowlers" isn't something that you watch passively. It's something you do. It's who we are. Performers, musicians, jugglers, makers, fanfic writers, cosplayers, gamers, and all the rest of it. We're people who take the biggest step of all, from creating nothing to creating something.

FALL BAR HARBOR WEEKEND OCT 15-17
Hi! Everyone I just booked a really fun weekend at the Bar Harbor Hostile... Here is their website if you would like to take a look http://www.barharborhostel.com/index.html The cost is $25 per night.. and there is room for 10 men and 9 women... I have already booked the private room for myself and two friends so all together there will be 23 of us. We shall fill the Hostile since they only have 19 beds available. If any of you are into camping they do have some tent platforms available for $15, if you are going to do that, let us know because that would give us more space to work with.. The Hostile is only holding these beds for us until Tuesday Sept 7th, after that date they become available to anyone that calls, so if you want to go on this trip I suggest you call the Hostile ASAP, Please DO NOT SIGN UP ON THEIR WEBSITE, they have no way of knowing you are with the Greater Boston Cycling Group.. Also because of the distance involved and the amount of people who want to go, you have to book either a bed for 2 nights or a Campsite for two nights. I'm sorry but we can't allow you to book a bed one night and a campsite the next night. That then would leave a space open on Saturday night no one is going to want to drive the distance to just come up for one night. Their number is: [masked] Tell them you are with the Greater Boston Cycling Group, or give them my name Cyndi Pariseau On Friday at 7:30 we will have a gathering in the Lobby at the Hostile to welcome everyone and maybe make some dinner plans also to set up logistics for the weekend.. Saturday we will bike the Carriage road around Acadia National Park and stop at the Jordan Pond House for Scones and snacks... If you have never been there it's beautiful.... Mountain Bikes and Hybrids are more appropriate for this, because if I recall it's packed dirt road... If you don't have one, there are a ton of bike shops up there that rent them... Saturday Night we will all go out for a Group Dinner... I will try to make a reservation at a reasonable price location... Sunday, we won't make a plan right now... everone may want to do different things, of course the hiking is great, there are Adorable shops and restaurants, and they happen to be having the Mt Desert Island Marathon on Sunday the 17th... So if you are a runner perhaps you might want to sign up. It also could be a fun event to watch... Here is the website for that: http://mdimarathon.org/ I will be sending out more details as we get closer to the date, but I wanted to post this as soon as possible since the Hostile is only holding the space for us until Sept 7th.. Don't hesitate to call them at [masked] If you book this and are not going to make it you are obligated to cancel 48 hours in advance.. Otherwise you will be charged for the spot... Please do not book it unless you know for sure you can go otherwise you are preventing others from attending that know they can.. This should be a great weekend. If you have never been to Bar Harbor it's like a little peice of Heaven up there!!!
